Something I love about Hunter X Hunter is that Gon’s determination is NOT portrayed as his best feature. It’s his flaw.
In most shonen, the protagonist never gives up and that’s how he wins (along with the power of friendship). It’s seen as admirable, something that viewers should strive for.
But in HxH, that refusal to give up is terrifying. Gon goes past his limits and hurts himself and others in the process. It gets to a point where you don’t want him to win anymore, if this is what winning means. You take one look at Gon, and you think, “He needs to stop. This isn’t healthy.” And even when he does win, it’s bittersweet. You aren’t left with the high of a power fantasy. You’re left with concern for this small child who is continually destroying himself, over and over.
Cool there’s been asbestos in Johnson & Johnson baby powder this whole time and they have been aware of it for decades and done nothing
@laeffy yeah you uh. Need to stop doing that immediately and maybe go to the doctor to make sure you don’t have mesothelioma
this is so fucking sick
FYI, this applies to talc & talc-based powders / body products in general— J&J knew about this for decades because talc & asbestos occur together naturally (the minerals literally grow together in nature, have similar compositions, and are / were mined together), and they’re difficult to cleanly filter out from each other.
It’s old knowledge that, unless you’re involved in mining, mineralogy, or occupational health & safety, has been deliberately buried from both the public’s and regulators’ knowledge.
CNBC’s article + their writeup on the Reuters report revealing J&J’s cover-ups go into more detail on their corporate liability and the impact of J&J’s products specifically…
…But I cannot overstate that people’s best option right now is to look for products in general that do not contain talc at all, regardless of the manufacturer, and to be vigilant in seeking appropriate healthcare (and/or legal action if required) if symptoms arise.
This goes for body use (diaper powder, chafing powder— this is where the cases of ovarian cancer are coming from), for any use where powder may be inhaled (hair, face), or will have prolonged exposure to mucus membranes (eye makeup, bath bombs, etc.).
J&J are not the only ones who have covered this data up, and companies that aren’t sued will absolutely continue to do so. Be safe & be vigilant.
ok people keep asking me why I, biggest Lotor Stan who ever stood, is not freaking tf out over Lotor’s treatment this season. and that’s a fair question and deserves a fair answer:
1) I did that in season 6 and basically was mercilessly made fun of so now I keep my negative opinions off this hellsite— no really because I said this is horrible for abused people and trauma survivors to watch, basically I was told that I should love Evil Lotor because that’s who he always was and people who love “soft uwu Lotor” are idiots. Incorrect. I was right, they were wrong but that’s besides the point. But I was right. Anyway.
2) my faith in the writers ability to deal with the complexities of abuse and trauma and power dynamics is so low that if they even stumble into a half correct solution I’m over the moon.
3) now there’s like 1938382 people on the “Lotor was abused and didn’t deserve this” train and like cool that’s great that you finally got there, I’ve been conducting this train for like a year, where were you back in season six? your anger is just performative now.
4) I just? Don’t feel it? like don’t get me wrong, I’m super pissed about somethings but like am I gonna get all up in arms about the ENTIRE season? No. It was good like as a whole and that’s fine. More than fine. Great even.
so yeah. I’m still here as the worlds #1 Lotor Stan and I always will be but like I’m not gonna get myself all twisted about things out of my control. Would I have written things differently? Of course. But I can still appreciate things about what we were given.
there are people with legitimate issues with this last season based in storytelling and the writing and characterization and they are more than welcome to be as frustrated as they want and we as a fandom should give people the space to explore their grievances with fictional media because where else can you?
but if your main problem with this last season is shipping based, grow up. go read/write fanfic like everyone else and be quiet
