Bear in mind that in 1948, there was no such thing as no-fault divorce. She couldn’t get a divorce just because she was done with him, he had to have severely wronged her in an way that old white men law-makers had decided was unforgivable, such as getting caught flat out in adultery, or beating her so bad she ended up in the hospital (a minor beating didn’t count). So no, he’s toast, and she has probably been putting up with shit for years waiting for him to do something on the list that meant she could get a divorce.
